DMOARTS is pleased to present "Traces Of The Soul," a solo exhibition by Ryoki Kurasaki.
Kurasaki paints portraits based on oil paintings and burns the eyes of the painted figures. He attempts to pursue the reality of the painted motifs by using the phenomena and materials generated by burning the canvas, the exposed space, and the compositional elements of the canvas itself.
In this exhibition, the "Traces Of The Soul" series, which expresses life and the soul with soot and burn marks created by burning canvas, and the "Blindness" series, which expresses how we face death and our attitude toward it in today's society, where death is far away, by blurring the motif of the dead and burning their eyes. Blindness" series will be exhibited. This is the first solo exhibition in Osaka by the artist, who has been well received at UNKNOWN ASIA and ART OSAKA. We hope you will take this opportunity to visit the exhibition.

    [Artist's Statement]
Fire has often been a metaphor for life.
This is because the "burning while consuming fuel" of a flame is similar to the "feeding while active" of humans, and the "extinguishing" of a fire is associated with "death," among other things.
By incorporating fire into my work, I attempt to approach the reality of the motifs depicted.

  • Saki Matsumura Solo Exhibition “chi to zu”

    2019. 4. 19 Fri. - 2019. 5. 17 Fri.

Saki Matsumura, whose latest solo exhibition "the eyes: they see" will be held at DMOARTS, will simultaneously hold a solo exhibition "the earth and the figure" at H.P.FRANCE WINDOW GALLERY MARUNOUCHI in Marunouchi, Tokyo.

Saki Matsumura constructs multi-layered screens using various techniques such as stencil and silkscreen.
The title of this exhibition is taken from the book by E.J. Rubin, a psychologist who proposed "Rubin's vase," which is a representative example of Gestalt psychology. One of the concepts described in the book is that people cannot perceive things that extend uniformly to their field of vision, and that they perceive shapes only when there are two dissimilar regions. These two areas are divided into "figure" and "ground," with "figure" emerging as a form and "ground" as its background. There is no clear motif in Matsumura's works. However, after viewing his works, a strong image remains in the viewer's mind. This is the result of his careful selection of the elements of his works, such as the fine texture of the materials, the rubbing of the paint, and the unevenness in certain areas, and his painstaking composition, which sometimes inverts the relationship between the ground and the figure.
We hope you will take this opportunity to visit the exhibition.

DMOARTS will hold a solo exhibition of Saki Matsumura for the second time in a year.
Matsumura is a painter who attempts to visualize abstract concepts. The white lines that appear in many of his works are actually blank spaces on which nothing is drawn. By depicting the surrounding shapes and colors, Matsumura expresses the human act of reading information from signs that are never concretely verbalized, as well as the space between the lines.
The works presented in this year's exhibition show a richer and more colorful expression compared to last year's exhibition. Through various exhibitions and commissioned work, the artist has evolved from the rigid world of monochrome to a unique and playful depiction.

The title "The eyes: they see" is made up of two words in an anagram relationship.
Like letters whose meanings can be changed by rearranging them, Matsumura's questions about visible phenomena and his insatiable search for the unseen are sure to be enjoyed by all.

A thinly painted monochrome world where reality and fantasy mingle.

DMOARTS is pleased to present "My Odd Friends," the first solo exhibition of Emi Suzuki at DMOARTS.
Suzuki has a wild yet sophisticated style, depicting animals and scenes in simple forms on handmade paper that retains a natural texture.
Her poetic expressions, in which the temperature of living creatures' bodies and even the smell of wild flowers and grasses can be felt, have been accepted, and he has been active mainly in solo exhibitions, including collaborations with fashion brands.
In this exhibition, we will present works inspired by the stories in our imagination. We look forward to your visit.

    Artist’s statement

The theme of this exhibition is "strange imaginary friends" and I drew funny creatures.
Here are some of my friends in my head, a little strange but not hateful.
For the first time, ceramic works are also available. The earthenware painted on the porcelain
You will feel the power of the work, which is different from that of two-dimensional works.

    3. 02 Sat. 15:00-19:00
    HYMN will perform live painting.
Enjoy the "virtual spray" that has leapt out of the canvas and into the show window!

We are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of HYMN, an up-and-coming artist whose work is still fresh in our minds from UNKNOWNA ASIA 2018, at H.P. DECO Curious Little Room.

HYMN pays homage to various icons of art, including Picasso, Matisse, and other masterpieces from the history of art, as well as graffiti sprayed on, and quotes and remixes digital imagery. The artist's unique style, which he calls "virtual spray," incorporates the spray drop as a product of the passage of time into the two-dimensional pixel.

The title of this exhibition, "Virtual Wall," represents the image of playing with imaginary graffiti art on "walls" in a virtual world that does not exist.
Enjoy the pop world that combines the colorful, uninhibited sprays that symbolize "feeling" for HYMN with the "digital" pixel information that has taken over our lives and now symbolizes reality.
