UNKNOWN ASIA Photo Exhibition

DMOARTS is proud to announce an exhibition of selected photographers from the UNKNOWN ASIA ART EXCHANGE OSAKA 2017 which was held during November 3rd to 5th in Osaka with huge reputations ever. In addition, we collaborate with WONDER FORO DAY (Taipei). This exhibition entitled “UNKNOWN ASIA PHOTO EXHIBITION” introduces total 6 photographers of new generations including Awards winners. They are from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan. Special edited catalogue and posters will be sold. This is very precious and rare exhibition to introduce them, very talented new generation Asian photographers in Japan. We are all looking forward to your coming.

Bali and Jakarta based photographer, Evelyn uses photography as a data collection tool to observe her surroundings, and her works are a visualization of questions that develop into an endless trains of thought that arise during the process.

Hilarius Jason Pratana (Indonesia)
Jakarta based photographer and visual artists, Hilarius Jason Pratana straddles the line between art and photography.

Maria Lezhnina (Taiwan)
Born in Russia and Taipei based photographer, Maria is an awarded photographer and architect interested in the climate and landscape. She obtained a Master in Architecture in Italy and in Russia.

(Pam) Virada Banjurtrungkajorn (Thailand)
Bangkok based photographer, Pam’s approach is to create minimal images by collages, photographs and graphic designs.

Ray Tsuyumitsu (Japan)
Japan and Taiwan based photographer, RAY aka ALIEN BIKYAKU introduces fetish self-portraits of her legs fused with pop colors.

Yen Tzu-Sung (Taiwan)
Taiwan based photographer, his approach to photograph is by trimming a part of architects and it reminiscent of sculpture.

DMO ARTS is pleased to present “A TWO PIPE PROBLEM LETTERPRESS” solo exhibition by Stephen Kenny “Mile of Smiles”.
“A TWO PIPE PROBLEM LETTERPRESS” is the letter press studio is run by Stephen Kenny in East London. His high artistic print works pressed by vintage wood types and letter press machines during 1800th – 1900th are very popular and so many fans not only in England but also in Japan. Kenny mixes very rare and historical wood types to create “words”. Layouts and selection of words are all done by Kenny and they are so awesome and artistic with warm and laid back vibes because of letter press that nobody can make it. This year, Kenny named this exhibition “MILE OF SMILES” and tours in Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo.

Biography of Stephen Kenny:

Mari Kubota solo exhibition “Yokosoyoko”

DMO ARTS is pleased to present the Mari Kubota’s solo exhibition “Yokosoyoko”from November 21 (Tue).

The girl said,
“Yokosoyoko. My house is here.”

Kubota, one of digmeout artists, has started her artist activity for the first time in 10 years. This exhibition in Osaka will be a compilation of her past exhibitions in Tokyo, Takamatsu and Hiroshima. Darkness and Pastel. Live and Death and Innocence. Girls only Kubota can draw are unique and distinct. We introduce her newest works , drawings, picture books, coloring books and goods that are available during the exhibition period only.

Yohei Sugita solo exhibition “Encounter, Space, Temptation And”

DMOARTS is pleased to present the Yohei Sugita’s solo exhibition “Deai, Kukan, Yukwaku And” (Encounter, Space, Temptation And … in English) from October 27th (Fri).
Sugita, one of a leading young artist of contemporary art, produces collage like landscapes and figures by dried acrylic paints, and oil paintings by gathering pictures from magazines and internet to reconstruct those into an ultra-realistic world. His approach to creation always focuses on essence of forming paints. Paints broadened in thin layers appear matiere that make new form as a painting. Sugita’s paints are sold immediately in Tokyo. This is his first solo exhibition in Osaka. Don’t miss it!

DMOARTS is pleased to announce that we will have the exhibition and the limited shop event of works created by the KIWI Seminar students at the department of spatial design of Kyoto University of Art and Design.  This is the yearly event in summer and we are proud of doing it again this year.

For this project, students have to handle and organize every single flow from creation planning of each item to exhibit, production, packaging and displaying to its sales. PLAY SMALL is the theme of this year.  We are very happy to show variety of small pieces of fashion, jewelry, art work, zakka and graphic that young students thought of creative ideas and produced during this event at DMOARTS.

Furthermore, Kaya Morishita who is out of this seminar and now is the artist of DMOARTS collaborates with her juniors by her SMALL works.  Please expect and don’t miss this unique event “a fusion of art and design” conducted by young students.

ART OSAKA 2017

DMO ARTS is pleased to announce to participate to ART OSAKA which is one of the biggest art fairs in Japan, focusing on contemporary art. As a reputable, established art fair, it is celebrating its 15th anniversary. This year, 54 art galleries will participate from both Japan and abroad (21 from the Kansai, 27 from the non-Kansai, 3 from Taiwan, 2 from Korea and 1 from Macau).
There will be more than 150 artworks exhibited, ranging from affordable pieces by young artists, to master pieces by internationally renowned artists. With eclectic works of paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures and installations using entire booths, ART OSAKA 2017 will certainly be a place for visitors to experience high quality contemporary art.
ART OSAKA uses hotel rooms as its venues, by doing so, artworks are presented with the feeling of being at home. Visitors can view quality artworks presented by gallerists with their unique aesthetics, and have the chance to purchase them on the spot. ART OSAKA hopefully provides both art lovers and anyone interested in living with art opportunities to establish new ways to connect and enjoy art by purchasing artworks they like.

ARTISTS:

Maria Murayama – sculpture
Graduated from Musashino Art University and master’s degree program in sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts 2012, Murayama joined to residencies in Japan, China and Netherlands. Her work is called “Taxidermy” series that is expressed a sense of altered cognition through changing the environment or context from dead body to taxidermy that turn to be objectively. Her taxidermy is the art processing by ceramics.


Saki Matsumura
Born in Nagano. Graduated from master’s degree program in painting at Kyoto University of Art & Design. An eclectic painter with technics of silk screen and acrylic paints using geometric patterns expresses graphical taste. Her debut art fair after graduating the university. She is one of the young, rising star in the art scene.


Okoimatsu
Born in Nagano, raised in Tokyo. Based in Sapporo after graduation from an art school in London. She draws traces of “mechanic” that consists urban picking up variety of subtle things surrounding our daily life as painting motives. Recently she uses motives of “test writing of pens” on a note pad that is often seen at stationary shops. By reproducing those motives of lines, free hand lines and graphics, she creates her own composition.


Fumitake Uchida
Born in Kyoto in 1981, graduated from Kyoto University of Art & Design.
4 pieces of his works was selected to “DESTINATION JAPAN” published by MoMA in 2008. His illustration was featured in the annual references of global creatives “LE BOOK” in edition versions of NY, Paris and London. His performances expands to music and theater industries such as DVD/CD jackets of MISIA , props of a musical directed by Amon Miyamoto and his own music album launched in 2013. Participated to UNKNOWN ASIA 2016.


Nonomi Miyahara
Born in Tokyo in 1992, graduated from Kyoto University of Art & Design in 2015. She creates installation works that evoke us past and future by combinations of ceramic and various commodity goods. At UNKNOWNASIA 2016, she received 5 awards by judges.


Yen Tzu-Sung
The bulk of the early works were photographed by the documentary of black-and- white negative. The images were involved in imagination with a series of black humor accompanied.
In addition to documentary photography, the artist has devoted himself to abstraction and minimalism recently. Not only he illuminate his own life experiences but also interprets the particular ones by series works.

DMO ARTS is pleased to present “Floating Reality” the 1st solo exhibition by Chikako Toya. Toya’s inspiration comes from a moment of ordinal people’s life, animals, flowers and nature. She draws these adding pattern like motives colorfully. In this exhibition, she will introduce “arcadia” like vision of harmony with nature alternating between reality and unreality.

Chikako Toya
Illustrator based in Tokyo, born in Kyoto. Mainly working for illustrations of adverts and editorials. She has expanded her works as an artist since this year.

Products formulated with the finest and freshest plant based, organic and food grade ingredients are so daring and help your skin. Andrea Garland is well known for its quality and catchy containers, and her collections are sold in many countries including at The Conran Shop, CIBONE and Isetan in Japan. During the POP UP at DMOARTS, kits in tins, lip balm in vintage taste pill box and hand mirrors are also available. Plus, her husband Andrew Bourton who designs her cosmetic packages specially drew for DMOART’s My First Art.

digmeout artist, YUGO. releases new pieces “Girls” at his solo exhibition held in Osaka, Tokyo and the first time in Fukuoka.
In this series, he draws the world of depressed and sometimes dirty daily life of youth that he was inspired from lyrics of his favorite band, San Francisco based “GIRLS” (2007-2012).
In addition to original drawings, goods especially for produced for this solo exhibition will be sold at each venue.
Each venue will present different pieces. Come and enjoy his new inspiration!
