The illustrator Chigusa Aihara, whose My First ART series have been popular, has her first solo exhibition at DMO ARTS.
With gouache, color ink, markers, and collages, she depicts stories of mysterious but cute characters from an unknown country. Her original artwork is available for purchase starting from 9800JPY.
Also there are art pants cutely designed in collaboration with GUNZE BODYWILD.

Chigusa AiharaBorn in 1984, currently living in Tochigi, Japan.
Graduated from Nippon Art College (concentration in graphic design) and Setsu Mode Seminar.
Aihara was one of the finalists for CWC Chance Exhibition in 2009 and participated in Tokyo Art Book Fair in 2010.
Since the spring of 2010, she has been participating in an eco project for contributing environment through design.
By combining gouache, color ink, pen, pencil and collage, she depicts the strange, unique world which looks like a dream.

Yumiko Kanda
Born in 1980, graduated from the Setsu Mode Seminar.
Kanda expresses the joy of rediscovering the beauty of ordinary things in everyday life.
She utilizes gouache and canvas boards.
She was selected for the art project Canvas@Sony in 2010 and created a 38-meter mural for three times.
In 2011, she received the Masayoshi Nakajo Award in the HB Gallery Competition.

Kiyoshi Kuroda solo exhibition: Consisting of a Pair of Images

In the exhibition The World with No Paved Road held at PUBLIC/IMAGE 3D in April 2011, Kiyoshi Kuroda was creating works in exchange of texts by Hideo Furukawa.
In his Open Studio Project held at NANZUKA AGENTA SHIBUYA in June, he opened his art-making process to public.His pencil drawings shown during the project were development from line drawings he had been creating.
In this exhibition at DMO ARTS, Kuroda utilizes his new and old styles of drawing to depict the world of something intact drawn with lines and the world of something vague and diminishing.

Kunie Kanbara solo exhibition: Imaukiyoe

In the past, everyone was familiar with this Japanese art and its quality surprised the world.
A painter, a carver, and a printer silently took turns and did our own best. I created artwork remembering women today, living more freely than the ones in the past.

The popular illustrator Kunie Kanbara, basing in Kyoto, has created ukiyoe in collaboration with Takezasado, a woodcut studio which has 120 years of tradition. This collaboration project has its first exhibition at DMO ARTS.
The illustrations Kunie Kanbara created for this project has been completed as ukiyoe and Kyo-hanga.
Please enjoy their unique and tastes and features of her artowork.
We accept pre-order of artwork (each work is edition of 300. 31500 JPY per sheet without frame).
During the exhibition, My First ART series (giclee print of Kanbara's works, 9800 JPY each) and GUNZE BODYWILD pants are available.
Kunie Kanbara
Born in Kyoto.
As her artwork was featured in a campaign visual of FM802 in 1999, Kanbara started her career as an illustrator.
She has been creating artwork for book covers, CD jackets, concerts, magazines, department stores, electrical appliances, cosmetic products and apparel brands.
As she has also been working as a designer at fashion brands, her works are used in various kinds of fields such as fashion, music, and advertisement industries.TakezasadoThe woodcut studio established in 1891.
Besides producing traditional woodcuts, it creates original products using its woodcut technique.
It is famous for creating works of Jan Svankmajer. The studio has been holding workshops at museums both in Japan and overseas.
The works from this Kunie Kanbara project would be timelessly loved Bijinga like the ones of Utamaro Kitagawa or Yumeji Takehisa.

An exhibition of GROOVISIONS, which has always been the center of attention in creative culture scene in Japan and overseas, will be held at DMO ARTS and the renewed UMEDA LOFT.
The design studio GROOVISIONS has been exploring the possibilities of new expression and creating enormous amount design works since its establishment in 1993 in Kyoto.
On view in this exhibition are their original character chappie which has been shown in many contemporary art exhibitions, graphic designs for musicians and product packages, art directions for magazines, editorial designs, motion graphics, visual images for brands, and so on.

profile:Established in 1993 in Kyoto, been making stage visuals for PIZZICATO FIVE etc. Since moving their base to Tokyo in 1997, as a design studio, GROOVISIONS has been making graphic designs and motion graphics for many clients in various fields.
Their main works include CD jackets and music videos of LIP SLYME and FPM; visual images of 100% Chocolate Cafe, Nishi-Nippon City Bank ALL IN ONE; package designs of the cigarette CASTER; editorial designs for magazines; show window of Maison Hermes; direction of the exhibitions of The North Face and Eames, motion graphics of NIKE, EXPO 2005 AICHI JAPAN, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The photographer MOTOKO has been taking portraits and creating artwork for many Japanese musicians such as Quruli and UA.
This is her exhibition on Kyoto.
Since Quruli's Albums Best of Quruli / TOWER OF MUSIC LOVER (2006) and Best of Quruli / TOWER OF MUSIC LOVER 2 (2011) features the city of Kyoto surrounding the Kyoto tower, MOTOKO has selected the photographs of Quruli and Kyoto she took from 2006 to 2011.
This exhibition is held in 2 locations at DMO ARTS and Kyoto Tower in the timing of Kyoto Onpaku music festival held by Quruli.
These locations are only 30 minutes away by JR Kyoto Line rapid trains.
This exhibition connects the Kyoto tower, a mecca for Quruli fans, and Osaka Station City, the new sight of Osaka.

She has been contributing articles to the SUNTORY web magazine.

Tomohiro Shimizu solo exhibition: Zawa-zawa Zone

Tomohiro Shimizu turned his career from a system engineer to an artist.
In his artwork, round-faced female figures stand in a landscape depicted in traditional Japanese style, such as Rimpa or ink drawing.
As reality is removed from the landscape, so are facial expressions of the figures.
The story inside artwork, which can be inspired from its title, varies depending on each viewer.
Since 2008, Shimizu has been selected for the Wonder Seeds exhibition hosted by Tokyo Wonder Site every year.
Although he has been holding exhibitions both in Japan and overseas, this is his first solo exhibition in the western Japan.
In this exhibition, not only his original artwork but also Gunze BODYWILD pants and My First ART series will be available.

IZUMONESIAexplores expressions of prints on the theme of folklore in the 20th-21st century.
After a press release at the Nihonbashi DIC Color Square in 2006, he debuted as an artist at the gallery in Morioka Bookstore in 2007.
The fabric design he created with Misuzudo at the Daikanyama Cocca, which expressed Japanese tradition in contemporary style, gained a lot of attention.

Shishi YamazakiBorn in 1989, entered the Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in design.

In 2011, she participated in RISO GOCCOPRO Exhibition / Printa Animizumo Exhibition held at IID Setagaya Monozukuri Gakko.

Kuniko Otomo
Kuniko Otomo Born in 1984, received a BFA from the Tama Art University and a MFA from the University of Tsukuba.
As a recipient of Finnish Government Scholarship, she studied abroad to Europe in 2009.
Also she has received many awards.
Her design is characterized by its quality enhanced based on her drawing.
While working as a textile designer, she has been making artwork which transcends the field of design.
Keiko Akatsuka
Akatsuka is an illustrator who creates emblems in contemporary style based on various kinds of symbols coming from core folklore in Europe, colonies in South America and folk motif in Japan.
The world depicted by detailed drawing transcends the existing emblem studies and opens up a new horizon in the new age.
Mayumi Terada
Mayumi Terada Born in 1969.
Terada created artwork for Think Transplant campaign, Keihan Kyobashi station stairway, FM802 HAPPY FUN RADIO website, NISSAN cube ART ROOM Valentine's Day message card, FM802 x JA OSAKA LOVER'S DRIVE campaign, and many magazines and advertisements.
With simple lines Terada depicts daily life of characters which is full of warmness.
She has been creating many artwork with RISO KAGAKU Corporation's Print Gokko and RISO-Graph

Human figures and typography in CHO-CHAN's artwork possess coolness and humor.

Mocchi mocchi is an art unit of the Mochizuki sisters: Sachiko and Junko.
They both graduated from the Masa Mode Academy of Art.
While creating/selling cards and artwork made with screen printing, they also design convenience goods, textile, greeting cards, posters and calendars.
They exhibit works both in Japan and overseas.

Hikari Shimoda solo exhibition: Lonely Hero

Hikari ShimodaBorn in 1984 in Nagano, Japan.
After graduating from a 2-year collage, Shimoda studied illustration for 2 years at Aoyama-juku to be a professional illustrator.
She started her career in 2008 as a contemporary artist.
Through depicting children, Shimoda reveals the problems inside the people in the society today.
Based on illustration style which is typical in the Japanese art world, Shimoda's artwork shows the world where cuteness and horror coexist.
Since she has been active on internet and has created illustrations for book covers, her fans, mainly teenagers and 20s, are all over the world.
She has held many solo and group exhibitions mainly in Tokyo.
In April 2011, Shimoda had a solo exhibition at Foley Gallery, New York and had a favorable review.
